Sunday 1st January - night ride.
I haven't commuted by bike for the last 6 weeks. There has been a lot of freezing weather and for almost a week in early December the temperature never made it above 0°c. I don't fancy any broken bones, so I've been enjoying the heated seats in the car every morning, but I have missed my bike.
Through Instagram I read about the Urban Adventure League midnight bicycle league 2023 and decided to apply. The organiser, Shawn Granton, responded promptly with a little pack of postcards and my log book. Best of all it included the much needed motivation to get back out on the bike.
I planned to take the LHT for my night rides but my front light died as I started out at 10pm. A bit disappointed but I swapped the trucker for the Ridgeback, which has built in lights, and headed off into the dark.
It was a chilly 4°c and my poor head was freezing through my helmet, but once I was into the shelter of the woods it was fine.
The tracks were slippy but I took it easy and made my way around the edges of town for an easy four and a half miles.
It was cold and dark but I enjoyed my short adventure.
The trucker light is on charge as I type this up and hopefully it will work this time. Then I'll get out again and start some decent night rides for my log book.
