13th May 23, Eyemouth, Paxton, Foulden loop.
In the last 10 years I'd forgotten how hard this loop is. Just over 20 miles, but it starts with a 10% climb, followed by 3 more miles of climbing, a lovely flowing descent into borders countryside. Single-track to the Whiteadder footbridge, steps up out of the valley, and finally some relatively flat cycling.
The climb back up over the moor is easier from the south side, then it was a quick descent to the railway line, the quick climb out of Ayton and back on an incredibly bumpy bit of road to Eyemouth. I'd forgotten that bit of road. It's one of those fast descents when you fear for your spokes, but can't risk braking.
Hard going. I need to lose weight and go easier routes.
34.3 km, average 15.4km/h. 574m ascent 565m descent.
